Building a website...

I see that many of you have your own websites and I've been thinking that I might have a go at building one of my own. This is a general queery really as I just wanted some advice or tips. Did you use Dreamweaver? What's it like? What other good progs/sites are there to help me? Sorry to sound like a complete novice, but you've got to start somewhere! I have used both Dreamweaver and Netscape Composer, with elements of Swish. It depends on how fast you grasp the curve which will dictate your abilities, just like drumming.

I used Microsoft FrontPage. It's just a basic site and I was able to move from not knowing anything about building a site to putting one up with the mp3 clips in one sleepless weekend. I am intereseted in checking out other software that will produce a real classy site.

Well your site looks good enough to me Andy and the mp3 page scrolls nicely too! To be honest I want a fairly simple site like most of you seem to have, with biog/gigs/mp3s/links etc. Are Dreamweaver and Front Page easy to use as far as being able to upload music clips etc?

Thanks! FrontPage is fairly straight forward about uploading the mp3s. The only limitation might be your connection speed. Updates and modifications have also been fairly straight forward with this software.

as far as the editors go, i like Dreamweaver the best and the FTP tool is pretty nice, lots of other perks...so a bit more of a learning curve compared to FrontPage, but the code it makes (DW) is so much cleaner & easier to edit if you need to go there. still, the last FP review i read gave it high very marks as a simple editor that is easier to learn & has almost the same GUI as Word & other MS stuff.

if you run into a problem with either one the uploads, you can just use one of the free FTPs like www.smartftp.com . great utility...
